Tips:

  • Soy beans (soya beans) offer a complete protein source, so keep them in mind if you are following a plant-based diet.

  • Soybeans are not harvested in the UK, but you can find them dried, frozen or canned.

  • Edamame beans are young soybeans, usually sold frozen in their pod, although the pod should be discarded.

  • Tofu is a soy bean preparation traditional across Asia. There are many types of tofu, which denote how much water is pressed out in the preparation. From lightest to most dense, tofus can be: silken, regular, firm, extra-firm and super-firm.
